Number of minors suspected of committing a crime halved
The number of youths in Maastricht suspected of committing a crime has halved in the last eight years. This is shown by figures from Jeugdmonitor published by Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek – CBS (Statistics Netherlands).
Last year, 280 young people between the ages of 12 and 25 were suspected of committing a crime in Maastricht. In 2012, there were 560. In the following years a clear decrease can be seen. Only in 2019 was there an increase, which was visible throughout Limburg.
In the municipality of Venlo, 310 young people were suspected of crime in 2020, which puts Maastricht in second place in absolute numbers. Heerlen and Sittard-Geleen share third place with 250 suspected of committing a crime.
