Human rights defenders exhibition: Shelter City

The boulevard on Stationsstraat has since this week been host to six large panels featuring photographic portraits of 'defenders of human rights'.

The exhibition was organised on the initiative of Shelter City Maastricht in cooperation with local partners such as Mondiaal Maastricht, Gemeente Maastricht and Maastricht University. The aim, just as in other Dutch cities, is to provide accommodation and protection to these people.

Since 2015, Maastricht has offered asylum to political refugees as well as psychological support, accommodation or education. This is something that human rights lawyer Anthony Odur from Uganda, given his work in his motherland, is currently grateful to utilise.
